What to expect in Year 7
High school brings new experiences and routines, including:
- a larger school with more subjects, teachers and classrooms
- a timetable with different lessons each day
- moving between classrooms and carrying books and equipment
- more independence and responsibility for homework and study
- new friendships and opportunities to join activities and clubs.
Preparing for high school
Starting high school is a big step, but with the right information and support, Year 6 students can look forward to an enjoyable and rewarding Year 7 experience. We encourage families to engage with schools and use available resources to make this transition as smooth as possible. Preparation helps reduce anxiety and builds confidence. Here are some steps to help your child prepare:
- Orientation Programs: Many high schools offer orientation days where students can tour the school, meet their teachers and classmates, and learn about school routines.
- Information Sessions: Many high schools provide sessions for parents and students to learn about school expectations, support services, and extracurricular opportunities.
- Transition Activities: Activities such as buddy programs, visits to high schools, and introduction to timetables and routines can help students prepare for high school life.
