What students learn
Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.
At Thurgoona Public School, Special Religious Education (SRE) is delivered once a week during school terms.
Parent/carers can nominate their choice via the online enrolment procedure or complete a SRE Participation Letter.
The following SRE classes are offered at Thurgoona Public School.
Non-Denominational Special Religious Education (Combined Christian SRE)
Approved providers – ACTS Global Churches, Albury Bible Church, Associated Christian Ministries, Australian Christian Churches, CRC Churches International (NSW), Churches of Christ (NSW & ACT), Lutheran Church of Australia (NSW), Presbyterian Church of Australia (NSW)
With approved SRE volunteers from local churches, students ask questions, explore the Bible and discover the Good News of Jesus Christ and what it means to be a Christian in our world today. Lessons are age-appropriate, fun and inclusive.

Catholic Religious Education
Catholic SRE Catholic SRE teachers (also known as Catechists) are authorised and trained representatives of their Diocese of the Catholic Church. The Catholic SRE curriculum is approved by the Bishop of the Diocese in liaison with religious education experts:

No Religious Education
In the allocated time set aside for SRE, students not attending are provided with supervised alternative meaningful activities. This could include reading, private study or completing homework. They are supervised in a separate physical space from SRE classes by a member of the school staff. Supervision of students is consistent with the Department's duty of care requirements. Students do not participate in lessons in the school curriculum or other extra-curricular activities during this time.
Ethics Classes (available to Years 3 and 4 only-limited to 22 students per class)
Ethics classes support children to develop a life-long capacity for making well-reasoned decisions about ethical issues. Through the give-and-take of reasoned argument, students learn to disagree respectfully, to challenge ideas and to support their arguments with considered evidence rather than according to habit or peer pressure. Volunteer ethics teachers, which are trained members of the school and broader community, use detailed lesson materials which present a range of stories, scenarios and questions to generate discussion. Ethics teachers are trained to impartially facilitate student discussions, helping students develop their critical thinking and collaborative inquiry skills.
