Kindergarten orientation

A structured orientation program is offered to all children seeking enrolment at Thurgoona Public School, to smooth the transition from pre-school and home to Kindergarten.

At Thurgoona this program includes:

  • sessions at school to encourage children to separate happily from parents and carers;
  • an individualised transition program for students with special education needs or disabilities (please let us know early so that this can be organised);
  • close liaison with Thurgoona Preschool with visits by pre-schoolers to classrooms, playground, canteen and assembly. Please contact us if your child attends another Preschool to arrange visits;
  • an introduction to school routines and facilities;
  • a buddy system so that each new Kindergarten child starts school with an older "ready made" friend;
  • an information evening for parents and carers;
  • information packs for parents and students.
  • a "getting to know you" coffee morning with other parents from our school at the beginning of 2018.

An orientation program is planned by the school to give children a "taste" of the Kindergarten year.

A session is also held for parents to help you prepare your child for school and to introduce you to support personnel available at our school.

Parents and children have found this program of great assistance in the smooth transition to school.

We do hope you and your child will be able to attend.

Specific dates and details of the orientation program will be sent to you when the enrolment form is completed and returned.

We would be happy to show you around our school at any time, please ring for an appointment.
